CONTRACEPTION

Long acting contraceptives are generally more reliable than pills as you don’t need to remember to take them every day. They are a great choice for people who don’t want a baby in the near future. We offer a choice of different methods.

Coils

We can help with both IUS and IUD coils. They are a small plastic device which is inserted into the womb through the cervix. It takes around 20 minutes. Intrauterine system coils (IUS) release a small amount of progesterone and last up to 8 years. Intrauterine devices (IUD) contain a small amount of copper and last between 5-10 years.

Implants

A small plastic rod is inserted under the skin of your upper arm under local anaesthetic. The implant slowly releases the hormone progesterone.

The implant works for up to 3 years.
